Mozambique Drill

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Here is a short piece I’ve been working on at school. All work (filming, tracking, VFX, comp, sound, etc.) done by me except for the helicopter model (Half Life 2) and recording of the sounds (various sources).
A lot of learning went into this. It was my first attempt at filming and editing with production [...]

Let’s talk about Minecraft, dude. (MINECRAFT DUDE!)
Here’s a guy (Markus Persson) that had 5,232 buy his game in 24 hours at 10 euros a pop (around 15 bucks). That’s around 78.5 grand in a day. “Wait a second!” you might say. “78 grand a day?! That’s a lot! At that rate, how much is that [...]

The Last Game

Monday, July 5th, 2010

So with the 10 year anniversary of Deus Ex doing on at RockPaperShotgun, I’ve begun to seriously and honestly think again about games, game design, and what I want from it.
It turns out, these things run through my head all the time. I find them to be a wonderful way to experience stories, ideas, places, [...]

I remembered to finally post the animation Stephanie and I worked on (her since August, me since January). I was responsible for lighting and effects work, though I was lucky enough to have input on other things as well (story, layout, etc.)

Since I consistently make market predictions and am always right (muahahahaha) I figured I would actually write them down and stand by them.
Firstly: Apple is inflated. Back when it was around 210 it felt overinflated before the iPad announcement (though when it touched 190 I yelled BUY!) It has hit the stratosphere mainly on hype [...]

Renderman for Maya and GI

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

So I’ve been tinkering with RFM for a while. Everyone always says use an environment light to do your GI. Like an idiot - I never understood how to get it to do what I wanted…which is not simulate the whole freaking thing for me! I’m a lighting artist - I hate when the computer [...]

Subdivide Selected

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Edit: You can totally manage Subdiv Selected through Shared Geometric Attributes. I fail at life.
First off - yes I am done with the Disney project. It went very very well and Kristi strongly urged me to apply for their internship program next summer (since I obviously won’t be done with my thesis by then. Pah!). [...]

Controlling After Effects Expressions

Monday, March 9th, 2009

So lets say you want to write an expression in After Effects that maybe….randomizes an exposure effect……but you only want it to happen for a certain duration. Whatth’eckdoyado?
if (time >= key(1).time&& time<=key(2).time) {
} else{
Put that expression in, and set two keyframes for the variable it is controlling, and bingo bango - you’ve got an expression [...]

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

So it’s December 11th, 1:22pm. The last bits of our ~2 inch snowfall yesterday are melting from the rooftop outside my window. Chilly, but I like it that way.
I’ve been through probably the most disorienting sleep schedule you could ask for over the past week (wake times of 2pm, 5pm, 9pm, 2am, 3am, 5am, 6am, [...]

Stuck on repeat

Friday, November 14th, 2008

I’ve recently noticed that I have a hard time letting go of tunes. I’ve gone to sleep and woken up playing the same song (and section) in my head. I’ll hear it in my dreams….when I shower…..all day long. I couldn’t figure out why it happens only at certain times with certain songs.
I finally figured [...]
